Creating a Telephone Assistant

In this video, we walk you through the process of creating a telephone assistant that answers calls. We cover everything step-by-step, from selecting the features to customizing the greeting message. At the end, we guide you on how to save your assistant and get it ready for use.

Video Overview

  1. Assistenten erstellen (0:00)
To create a new assistant, go to the "Assistenten" section and click "Assistenten erstellen." You'll then choose whether you want the assistant to handle inbound or outbound calls. For this tutorial, we'll select "Anrufe beantworten" (Answer Calls).
  2. Anpassungen vornehmen (1:10)
After selecting the function, you'll be asked to define what the assistant will do. Choose "intelligenter Anrufbeantworter" (Intelligent Call Answering). Here, you can customize the assistant's name, language preferences, and the style of greeting.
  3. Anrufgründe festlegen (2:16)
Next, set the reasons why the assistant will be answering calls. You can define various scenarios for the assistant to handle based on the nature of the incoming call. You can also determine when the assistant should transfer the call to a human representative.
  4. Fertigstellung und Speichern (2:58)
Once all settings are customized, save the assistant. The assistant is now ready to handle calls. You can always come back and edit settings such as the greeting message or call transfer rules.

Key Features

  • Customizable Greeting: Tailor the assistant's greeting to reflect your company’s style.
  • Pre-set Call Scenarios: Define specific situations and actions for your assistant to respond to.
  • Transfer to a Human: Set rules for transferring calls to a real person when necessary.
  • Call Duration Limits: You can limit the duration of calls to prevent endless conversations.
  • Formal Speech Mode: Enable professional communication patterns for business environments.
  • Knowledge Base Integration: Connect your assistant to your organization's knowledge base for more informed responses.
  • Language Selection: Choose the language your assistant will use for conversations, which also determines how extractors and actions analyze calls.

Additional Configuration Options

During assistant creation, you can also configure advanced settings such as:

Language Selection

Choose your assistant's language during creation. This setting is important because:

  • English/Multilingual: The assistant will communicate in English, and all extractors will analyze transcripts in English
  • German: The assistant will communicate in German, and all extractors will analyze transcripts in German

Supported Languages & Voice Models

Plug and Plai assistants can integrate different Speech To Text and Text To Speech models (Azure, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Cartesia, OpenAI, Google, and others). This allows us to support up to 74 languages with voices and transcribers.

When using ElevenLabs, we support all languages listed in their supported languages documentation.

Currently, you can select German, English, or Multilingual models when creating your assistant. If you need other languages, we support them, but please contact us personally so we can implement them for you accordingly.

We have predefined voices for German and English that are proven to have the best variety, quality, stability, speed, pronunciation, style, and sound most humanlike. If you want to use other voices, please see our FAQ section on changing voices for more information.

Select the language that matches what your callers will speak to ensure the best experience and accurate data extraction.

Formal Speech Mode

Enable this option if your assistant will be handling professional or business calls where formal language is preferred. This setting can be changed later in the configuration tab.

Knowledge Base Integration

Enable this option to allow your assistant to access and reference your organization's knowledge base during conversations, providing more accurate and detailed responses.
