Verified Caller IDs (CLI)

A Verified Caller ID (also called CLI — Caller Line Identification) is a phone number that you own but that was not bought through our platform. By verifying it, you can use it as the outgoing phone number for your outbound assistants.

This is useful if you already have a business phone number and want your AI assistant to call contacts from that number instead of a new one.

Where to Find This Setting

You can manage your verified caller IDs in the Phone Configuration section:

  1. Go to SettingsPhone Configuration (Twilio)
  2. Scroll down to the Verified Caller IDs (CLI) card at the bottom of the page

Adding a Verified Caller ID

Before your assistant can use an external phone number, you need to verify that you own it. Twilio does this by calling the number and asking you to enter a short code.

Steps:

  1. Click Add CLI
  2. Enter the phone number you want to verify (in international format, e.g. +49 30 12345678)
  3. Optionally, enter a Friendly name so you can recognise the number more easily later
  4. Click Add CLI in the dialog to submit

Twilio will then call the phone number you entered. During the call, you will be asked to enter the verification code shown on screen using your phone's keypad. Once you do this, the number is verified and will appear in the list.

Note: Verification is always done by phone call. Make sure someone is available to answer the call and enter the code.

Using a Verified Caller ID with an Outbound Assistant

Once a number is verified, it shows up in the phone number dropdown when you configure an outbound assistant. It is clearly marked with a CLI badge so you can tell it apart from numbers bought through the platform.

  • Outbound assistants can use CLI numbers as their caller ID
  • Inbound assistants cannot use CLI numbers — they can only use numbers registered on the platform
  • Everywhere a CLI number appears (assistant list, assistant configuration), it is labelled with a small CLI tag

Deleting a Verified Caller ID

To remove a verified caller ID from your account:

  1. Find the number in the Verified Caller IDs (CLI) table
  2. Click the delete (trash) icon next to it
  3. Confirm the deletion in the dialog

Important: You cannot delete a CLI number that is currently assigned to an outbound assistant. First remove the number from the assistant's configuration, then delete it here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a mobile number as a CLI? Yes, as long as Twilio can call the number to verify it.

What happens if I miss the verification call? The number will not be added. You can try again by clicking Add CLI and submitting the same number.

Does the verification expire? No. Once a number is verified, it stays verified until you delete it.

Can I use a CLI number for inbound calls? No. CLI numbers can only be used as the outgoing caller ID for outbound assistants. They cannot receive incoming calls through our platform.
